Food Bank A Charity Navigator 10 Top-Notch Charity
– Mar 22, 2012
The Food Bank for Monterey County is a Charity Navigator’s 10 Top-Notch Charity.
This means that the Food Bank has earned not only the highest 4-star rating for financial strength, but also meets all 17 accountability and transparency metrics. In short, the Food Bank has been found to follow all ethical best practices including governance and donor relations, and that all critical information about the Food Bank is completely and easily accessible to all.
This prestigious designation made by America’s premier nonprofit evaluator of more than 5,000 charities based on their financial health and the efficiency of their operations, assigns the Food Bank for Monterey County the highest scores both in its day-to-day responsible functionality as well as how well positioned it is to sustain its programs over time.
The Food Bank for Monterey County serves 90,000 different individuals annually—one-fifth of Monterey County’s population, including 40,000 children, with a staff of only sixteen fulltime staff, the help of dedicated volunteers and an overhead of 4.6%. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank is able to distribute $8 worth of food.
“We are honored to be distinguished as a one of 10 Charity Navigator’s Top-Notch Charities,” states Executive Director Leslie Sunny. “I believe with all my heart that we are doing good work, our best work ever, and we are meeting the challenge with the help of all our supporters!”
